Financing can seem daunting.

It’s no secret that building a backyard pool can be really expensive. Many customers can envision exactly the backyard getaway they dream of, but when pricing comes up, that vision starts to fade.

At Aloha Pools & Spas, we understand this completely. For the past 57 years, this family business has been committed to making backyard dreams a reality for families of all kinds. One of the ways we help make that happen is by offering financing options through LyonFinancial.net, our primary lending partner of nearly 15 years.

Financing may seem daunting at first, but Aloha is here to help. In this article, you’ll learn how the financing process works, what you need to prepare before your sales meeting, and what to expect along the way.

Financing: How It Works

Applying for financing with Lyon Financial is done online. Your Aloha sales rep will guide you to the application, and the process kicks off with a soft credit pull– meaning that checking your eligibility won’t impact your credit score.

You’ll fill out your personal information along with the project type, cost, timeline, and terms, and you’ll usually hear back within 24 to 48 hours on whether you’ve been approved. From there, funding is typically available within 2-3 weeks. Your Aloha sales rep can’t determine your exact rates, but Lyon Financial offers a loan calculator that provides a rough estimate.

Loans through Lyon Financial range up to $200,000 for up to 30 years, with no down payment required.

What Parts of My Pool Construction Can I Finance?

Pretty much everything. If you’re financing your entire backyard, Aloha Pools & Spas can work with that, including furniture, fencing, decking, and landscaping. Hardscaping and landscaping tend to be the biggest add-ons our customers finance alongside their pool.

Every type of pool can be covered under financing, and pool renovations may also be financed. In our experience, there honestly isn’t much we’ve tried to finance for a customer that’s been turned down- we want to ensure you have the option to finance all of your backyard renovation, and Lyon Financial provides flexibility for you to do so. If you’re also adding a hot tub, note that those are typically financed separately, often through Wells Fargo rather than Lyon Financial.

How Does Lyon Financial Pay for the Build?

Lyon Financial pays contractors in stages as your project progresses: 10% down, then the remaining balance disbursed at key milestones: dig, walls, concrete, and completion.

(Note: some customers ask about LightStream, which is a separate consumer lender Aloha has also worked with. Unlike Lyon’s staged disbursement, LightStream-style lenders typically send a single check that you disperse as needed – useful if you’re managing a larger backyard project with multiple vendors. Ask your sales rep which structure fits your project best.)

Why Should I Trust This?

Aloha has partnered with Lyon Financial for almost 15 years. They’re highly rated by Aloha customers, they treat our clients well, and they’ve consistently delivered the kind of service that’s made Aloha comfortable putting our name behind theirs.

The vast majority of our customers- around 75%-  finance their pools through Lyon Financial. It’s a brand we’ve trusted for years, and we’ve never had negative feedback about the experience.

Is There Any Risk to Financing?

As with any loan, interest rates can shift over time; that’s true of any financing, not just pool loans. Because of this, the average pool loan tends to last about 5 years before homeowners refinance or roll it into another loan, often to take advantage of better terms down the line. That’s not unique to Lyon Financial; it’s simply how most loans of this kind play out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a risk to financing my pool? As with any loan, the main thing to keep in mind is that interest rates can change over time, which may lead some homeowners to refinance later. On average, pool loans are refinanced or restructured around the 5-year mark- this is typical across the industry, not specific to Lyon Financial.

Will checking my financing options hurt my credit score? No. The initial application uses a soft credit pull, so you can see what you qualify for with zero impact to your score.

Is there anything I can’t finance? In Aloha’s experience, we haven’t had a backyard-related request turned down, from landscaping and decking to a full backyard build.

How long has Aloha worked with Lyon Financial? Lyon Financial has been a trusted company for our customers for nearly 15 years.

What if I’m financing a hot tub too? Hot tubs are typically financed separately, often through Wells Fargo rather than Lyon Financial.

How is the loan paid out during construction? Lyon Financial disperses funds in stages- 10% down, then at dig, walls, concrete, and completion- so the payout follows the actual progress of your build.

In short, financing your pool is much more straightforward than it sounds. Applying through Lyon Financial ensures a quick, transparent process that lets you enjoy your backyard without the storm cloud of costs hanging over your head.
