Above Ground Pool Construction Timelapse

Above-ground pools have a reputation for being quick and simple to install, and for the most part, that’s true. But “quick” doesn’t mean simple. This timelapse shows what actually happens on the construction side when your above-ground pool comes together.

How long does an above-ground pool take to install?

Above-ground pools are generally the fastest pool type to build because they don’t require excavation. While every project varies by size and site conditions, many above-ground installations can be completed in days rather than months. The longest part of the process is waiting for the dig to begin; this wait depends on the time of year.

Step 1: Leveling the ground

Unlike inground or semi-inground pools, above-ground construction skips digging almost entirely. Instead, the crew focuses on leveling the exact spot where your pool will sit. A level base is essential, since an uneven foundation can cause problems with the pool’s structure and water level down the road. If you have a sloped yard, consider a semi-inground pool.

Step 2: Assembling the walls

Once the ground is level, the crew assembles the pool walls on-site, typically using aluminum or resin panels. This step gives the pool its shape and structure without any underground work required.

Step 3: Plumbing

With the frame in place, the crew connects the plumbing to link your pump and filter system. Since above-ground pools have a simpler structure than inground pools, this step tends to move quickly.

Step 4: Sand base and liner

Even though there’s no digging involved, a sand base still goes down inside the pool floor. This layer protects the liner and creates a smoother, more comfortable surface. The liner is then installed, fitted to the shape and size of your specific pool.

Step 5: Filling the pool

Once the liner is in place, it’s time to fill the pool with water. This step helps the liner settle into its final position against the walls and floor.

Step 6: Finishing touches

Above ground pools don’t require concrete work, since there’s no in-ground structure to support. That said, some homeowners choose to add a small concrete or paver pad nearby for stability, easier cleanup, and a nicer spot to set up chairs.

Why choose an above ground pool?

Above ground pools are a great option for homeowners who want to get swimming faster and at a lower cost than an inground build. They’re also a smart choice for yards where excavation isn’t practical or budget-friendly. Aloha builds inground, semi-inground, and above-ground pools, so whichever route fits your yard and goals, our team can walk you through it.
